Horses in the pasture

Patentiere Our horses Bella, Linus, Zara and Zarina

The horses in Weidefeld also all come from animal welfare cases and were sometimes neglected, mistreated or rescued from slaughter. In Weidefeld, they can now enjoy a horse-friendly life among their own kind!

Our four sponsored animals are introduced in more detail here:

Bella Tarpan

Bella had to live out her life in sad conditions in a Bavarian zoo. When this zoo went bankrupt, Bella was to be sent to the slaughterhouse. Animal welfare activists were able to rescue her and her companions just in time!

Bella has been with us at the Weidefeld Animal Welfare Center since 2002. She is safe and well cared for here. Bella is trusting and loves to be stroked. And she loves to be fed from the hand. Bella's brown coat is not the only thing that sets her apart from the other tarpans - she has also taken on the role of lead mare in the herd. The shy Linus in particular seeks to be close to Bella. Linus was also threatened with death at the slaughterhouse.

Our keepers look after Bella and her herd with great dedication. For example,
they served the horses water every day in a large tub because the animals needed some time to get used to a new drinking trough.

Arabian mix Sam also likes to join the small herd of tarpans. Since we replaced the fence, the two enclosures can be easily connected and the five horses are clearly enjoying their shared life!

Linus Tarpan

Linus had to eke out his existence in sad conditions in a Bavarian zoo
. When this zoo went bankrupt, Linus was to be taken to the slaughterhouse.
Animal welfare activists (LV Bayern) were able to save him and his companions just in time!

Linus has been with us since 2002. He is safe and well looked after here. Linus is a bit shy and loves to be met calmly and calmly. He shies away from hectic movements. But he can be enticed and even stroked with treats. His closest companion is lead mare Bella - she was also threatened with death at the slaughterhouse.

Our carers look after Linus and his herd with great dedication. Because the
animals needed some time to get used to a new drinking trough, our
keepers served the horses water every day in a large tub.

Arabian mix Sam also likes to join the small herd of tarpans. Since we replaced the fence, the two enclosures can be easily connected and the five horses are clearly enjoying their shared life!

The tarpan stallion Linus is always happy to have new sponsors - support Linus with a sponsorship.

Zarina Cold blood

Zara was 15 years old when she came to us at the Weidefeld Animal Welfare Center on the Baltic Sea together with her mother in 2022. The two mares were handed over to the animal welfare association Kellerranch e.V. in Weiterstadt at the beginning of 2021 from poor private husbandry.

Mother and daughter had massive health problems due to the very poor husbandry. The Kellerranch has therefore already started to provide them with medical care and rehabilitate them.

They now receive regular orthopaedic treatment from our farrier
at our animal welfare center. As a result, they are doing much better today. They now live together with the Arabian mix Sam in our spacious open stable and feel very comfortable there. Sometimes Zarina even manages to encourage her elderly mother to play with them.

As cold-blooded horses have a shorter life expectancy than warmbloods, we
are particularly pleased that Zarina and her mother can now spend a beautiful and hopefully long retirement with us.
