Because only by acting together and in partnership can we continue to drive the necessary social change towards greater animal welfare. With the German Animal Welfare Association, you have a strong and competent partner at your side: we are the largest animal welfare umbrella organization in Germany and Europe. We have been fighting for sustainable animal welfare in society, business and politics since 1881. Join us as a partner on the path to a more animal-friendly future - together we will give our fellow creatures a voice!
Who are we? The German Animal Welfare Federation:
We have been fighting for animals in need since 1881. During this long period, we have built up unique expertise and an extensive international network that we can draw on in our practical animal welfare work. Our opinion carries weight and our expertise is a valued component in numerous committees and specialist discussions.
With our public relations work and our campaigns, we uncover abuses and specifically seek social and political discourse at national and EU level. Only through constructive dialog can we take action against abuses and successfully fight for an end to animal suffering.
16 regional associations, around 740 animal welfare associations with 550 animal shelters/reception centers are affiliated with us. We represent the interests of over 800,000 animal welfare activists from all parts of Germany. This makes us the largest animal welfare umbrella organization in Germany and Europe and at the same time a recognized nature conservation association.
As a non-profit and politically neutral association, the German Animal Welfare Federation receives virtually no state funding and is dependent on financial support from society. Transparency and reliability are a matter of course for us and more than just lip service: as a founding member of the German Donations Council and a member of the Transparent Civil Society Initiative, we are committed to the transparent use of funds and to compliance with and regular monitoring of ethical standards in fundraising.
