"We assume that animal welfare will continue to be the responsibility of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture. We wish the designated Federal Minister Alois Rainer and his State Secretaries Silvia Breher and Martina Engelhardt-Kopf the best of luck in their forthcoming office. We offer them critical and constructive discussions in order to make progress in animal welfare. This applies in particular to livestock farming, but also to pets and wild animals as well as animals used in research. One of the most pressing challenges is the release of the promised investment support for animal shelters in Germany. The tasks are enormous. We must now deliver, as Chancellor-designate Friedrich Merz has announced as his guiding principle."
