Catmobil launches in Germany - German Animal Welfare Association makes cat suffering visible Press release

The German Animal Welfare Federation is taking its cat protection campaign “Every cat's life counts” to the streets with an eye-catching vehicle. The association is drawing attention to the plight of stray cats and promoting the neutering, identification, and registration of cats nationwide. The aim is to underline the demand for a nationwide neutering requirement for cats.

“The Catmobile is no ordinary vehicle, but a mobile symbol of animal welfare and responsibility,” says Caterina Mülhausen, Head of Campaigning at the German Animal Welfare Federation. “It drives to bring about change – and makes cat suffering visible.” The Catmobile is impossible to miss, even from a distance: a large cat on the roof and Polaroids of real street cats on the sides impressively show what it's all about – greater visibility and protection for the millions of street cats in Germany. These cats often live in hiding, sick, injured, or hungry. Many kittens die shortly after birth.

The idea of using the vehicle for cat protection originated in Belgium, where the animal welfare organization GAIA promoted the neutering of cats. GAIA has now handed over the vehicle to the German Animal Welfare Association, which has completely redesigned the Catmobile—with the exception of the impressive cat on the roof. “We are very pleased to now be able to use the Catmobile in Germany and hope that it will attract just as much attention and support for our cat protection work,” says Mülhausen.
